7 Ways to Drive Laser-Targeted Traffic

Thursday, August 28th, 2008

An affiliate marketer may have all the things needed for him to be able to succeed in a business such as affiliate marketing. He may have the necessary drive, diligence and perseverance to be able to understand how the system works. He may have all the tools necessary in maintaining the business, including a really unique and interesting website which could earn him a fortune if only the whole world could see it. However, all these would prove useless if he does not know how to drive traffic to his website. His business would sink into oblivion together with all the sales, fortune and dreams that he might have realized if he only knew how to do this particular task.

Getting people who matter to see one’s website is a difficult undertaking if he tries to consider the fact that there are rivals everywhere waiting to pin him down. The immensity of the internet as well as the affiliate marketing world has given birth to the fierce competition between affiliate marketers, each of whom has his own great product to offer. With all the websites piling on top of each other, how would one be able to stand out? The seven best ways to drive laser-targeted traffic to one’s own website would help those who are bent on sticking it out with this business wherever it is bound to take them.

The first step in driving traffic to one’s website is by relying on search engines and what they can do for the affiliate marketer concerned. Because they are popular for driving free targeted traffic, they should not be ignored by all means. Having top search engine rankings is vital in building popularity links, and the use of the right keywords is important in attaining this goal. Once a website is on top of the list, it is easily accessible to anyone who wants to see it for himself.

The second way in driving traffic to one’s website is by contacting other webmasters for a possible link exchange partnership. Locating websites that are related to one’s own website is the primary task. Once there, he should be able to establish communication by personalizing everything as much as possible. It is then possible to make reciprocal link exchanges between webmasters whichever way the affiliate marketer prefers.

The third way is through writing one’s own articles. This is an effective way in promoting a website, because good content that are appreciated by readers will lead them to visit the writer’s very own website out of sheer interest.

The fourth way is through joint venture marketing. This is one of the most effective ways of promoting a product or a service. Having a partner through ad swap or link exchange is beneficial to both parties as it allows them to reach a wide customer base in a short amount of time.

The fifth is through joining affiliate programs. Having affiliates to do the work means allowing them to bring tons of traffic to a website. Skyrocketing sales would be realized as a result, and both the affiliate and the website owner will benefit from the situation.

The sixth is by having a list of subscribers that one can refer to every so often, because they are those which would prove to be valuable assets for the marketer concerned. The use of autoresponders and personalized newsletters is one way of keeping track of them all, and holding on to them by letting them know about new products and services is an essential task that should be done by the affiliate marketer concerned.

The seventh is by knowing one’s market through and through. It is important for traffic to be targeted to those who might have a special interest in the theme or topic of one’s website. This way, a solid customer base is going to be created. Once a potential customer shows an interest in a particular website by paying it a visit, one must not waste time in trying to show him that his effort is worth it.

Traffic generating strategies are important in trying to make one’s affiliate marketing career inch forward. It is always advantageous to plan one’s moves in any business that he might undertake. This is particularly so in affiliate marketing. If one knows how to get people to see what he has to offer, then he is on the right track. Author is writter for sites such as Information Today

Repair a Scratched CD or DVD with Household Items

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

If you’re having problems getting a CD to work in your computer because it’s scratched, there are some easy solutions. First, try cleaning the CD with a little dish detergent. Use your finger to gently rub the detergent on the CD and coat it real good. Don’t use a cloth, it can make more scratches and defeat your purpose. Rinse it off well with water and try the CD in the drive again. If you are still getting read errors due to the scratches, then it’s time for the unlikely solution: toothpaste. Yep, you read it right. Put a little toothpaste on a Q-tip and polish the scratched area until they disappear or until they can’t get any smoother. Then wash the CD in water. That should hopefully fix it. If not, just retry polishing with toothpaste. If a few cleanings do not solve the problem, then try a metal polish such as Brasso in the same manner as the toothpaste. There is also a solution that involves gently rubbing Vaseline on the CD from the center outward. But I’m of the opinion if it goes that far and the CD still can’t be read, then it’s time to trash it.

Something else to consider: If your CD drive has trouble reading CD’s or DVD’s that aren’t scratched, then you need to clean the drive’s laser lens. You’ll need a CD/DVD-Player Laser-Lens Cleaner for that. They can be purchased at any computer store and even Wal-Mart.

Gaming Laptop Prices to Decline Due to Increased Competition

Monday, August 25th, 2008

It wasn’t too long ago when only a couple of brands produced gaming notebooks. For the companies they were greatly money spinning regardless of them not shipping in many numbers. Everyone desired this kind of laptop, but at the price point they were going for it was plainly unaffordable. They were basically the best laptops that the technology was able to offer at that time. As badly as I desired one I was unable to afford to buy laptops like them. The outlook for gaming notebooks is now seen by the massive manufacturers as a prime opportunity for themselves.

I reckon they would categorize it as a top end laptop and make tons of money on these particularly with their economies of scale. It’s a splendid chance for them to claw back gross markup as the markup on standard laptops are so minute nowadays. I’m quite confident that most of us would buy laptops if marketed to everyone by these giant brands. I reckon smaller retailers are really worried regarding this. With the money at their disposal they could easily finish the smaller competition. Established companies can utilize their brand names to effortlessly win consumers over.

I guess they surely are making a few of the best laptops out to purchase. This is probably the one service that smaller system builders can offer that the established brands cannot. Selecting the specification is process all us techies enjoy. Being educated in the technology, these types of buyers are savvy to what details to compare. For these kinds of consumers, the performance of a system sometimes mean more than the looks of it.

This can be looked at as a beneficial thing for the customer. Ultimately it will drive prices down even further and make the high end technology even more affordable for everyone. Even though I say that, I’m not actually confident with my predictions. Mobile technology is constantly advancing and the new notebooks should normally be expensive initially. Competition generally pushes companies to do more and give increased value so that sounds hopeful.

Wi-Fi Hotspot Security

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

You’ve set up your Boingo account, you’re hanging out at the Home Turf sports bar in LAX and you figure you’ll do a little business or check your e-mail while sipping a Chardonnay. Well, that’s the point of Wi-Fi hotspots; being able to take care of a few things while in a relaxing atmosphere.

Don’t, however, get so relaxed that you ignore security and give all your confidential information to some unscrupulous hacker. Yeah, you see the guy. He’s over in the corner wearing that fake nose and glasses with the ridiculous Bozo the Clown cap. Yep, drinking a Blatz. Dead give away.

Sorry, they won’t be that obvious, I doubt they ever drink Blatz and very seldom wear clown caps. When you’re thinking back, trying to remember who was around when your password was stolen, you probably won’t remember the woman in the tastefully tailored business suit, and if, by chance, you do, she won’t be the one you suspect. The best defense is to implement some simple security practices and measures that will safeguard your business and personal information.

Hot Spot Security: Simple Stuff

Be aware of those around you.

When you’re considering Wi-Fi security in public places one of the first safeguards is anything but high tech. Remember a few years ago when people were getting huge phone bills because someone was watching as they keyed in pass codes? It’s still happening to Wi-Fi network subscribers. Do what you can to keep prying eyes from your keyboard and screen. You pay good money for your monthly subscription and there’s no reason to let anyone piggyback or steal your credit card number as you sign up for a daily use fee at Starbucks.

Speaking of passwords:

Those of us who toil and travel are prime targets for those who may be of the persuasion to purloin. In other words, it’s quite possible to be targeted for laptop theft. Use a complex password to protect your files, folders and laptop from access by those villains of concourse and lobby.

Don’t Share!

Yes, I know, mothers have been telling us to share for centuries but, at least while using a Wi-Fi hotspot, make sure you disable file sharing. It might be great for the home and good at the office but it’s disaster in the making at your favorite coffee house.

Use a Personal Firewall.

If you’re using a corporate laptop make sure you talk to your IT department before you install any firewalls but if the laptop you’re using is your own let me suggest downloading a copy of ZoneAlarm. There are others of course but, for personal use, since ZoneAlarm is free and seems to test better than the rest I can’t see a reason to recommend another.

Most of the reasons for using a firewall should be self-evident but, to say the least, you’ll want to be made aware of any traffic coming or going and any unusual communication between applications.

Hot Spot Security: Less Simple Stuff

Beware the Evil Twin

Otherwise known as ‘Rogue Hotspots’ or the ’soft AP attack’ this Wi-Fi version of the e-mail Phishing scam is perpetrated by hackers who jam and mimic the signal and SSID of a legitimate hotspot. They then serve up a sign-in page garnering usernames, passwords and, in some cases, credit card numbers. If they go so far as to allow a connection to the Internet they’re then in the position to intercept unencrypted traffic as well as any files open to sharing (Don’t Share!).

There are a few things you can do to protect yourself from ‘Evil Twins’:

  • Don’t set your Wi-Fi card to allow automatic connection to any available network.

  • Check the list of available SSIDs to make sure you’re connecting to the right one.

  • Turn off the ad-hoc mode allowing other clients to connect directly to you.

  • Turn off your Wi-Fi card entirely as soon as you’re finished.

  • Use the personal or enterprise version of ‘AirDefense’, whichever may be appropriate.

  • Although a firewall won’t keep you from connecting to an ‘Evil Twin’ it will help to safeguard your information should you inadvertently fall victim.

Encrypt Confidential Information

Data that’s transmitted between yourself and a secure Web site can be counted on to be safe from the Starbucks Snidely Whiplash so when you’re purchasing goods, or banking on-line, you can do so without fear. When you’re logging onto the secure portion of the site, however, you may be doing so without the protection of security so be careful to note whether or not the sign in page is secured (https).

When sending e-mail there are a few things you can do to safeguard yourself. For example, instead of using Outlook or Thunderbird, take advantage of your ISP’s Web interface which, in most cases, will be secure and should protect your data during transmission.

If you frequently encounter the need to send large files via e-mail then using a compression program will meet your need to reduce the size of the file and most compression programs will also secure the data with encryption.

Another option is to use a free encryption program like Cryptainer LE. Cryptainer LE can encrypt any or all the files stored on your hard drive, protecting them in case your laptop is stolen or compromised, as well as allow you to e-mail them with the security of encryption. Cryptainer PE is also offered for enterprise applications.

Use a Virtual Private Network

Think of a virtual private network (VPN) as a solid conduit, or tunnel, between your laptop and your company’s network. By using a VPN your communications will be as secure as they would be if you were sitting at your desk.

Mac OS X, Windows 2000 and Windows XP have built in VPN clients and if you’re a user of Windows 98, ME or NT you can download the free Microsoft® L2TP/IPSec VPN Client from Microsoft®. If you’re a Linux user you can download the free S/WAN VPN client.

While the use of a VPN is one of the best ways to protect your confidential data when you’re using a Wi-Fi hotspot it is, unfortunately, limited to communication between your laptop and your company’s server. If you want to conduct personal business with similar security levels the best solution may be the award winning GoToMyPC software.

Use Anti-Virus Software

It’s somewhat surprising that so many people are aware of the dangers of ‘net borne viruses and, yet, so many either fail to incorporate anti-virus programs like McAfee & Norton or fail to keep them up to date. When you’re using a public hotspot it’s more important than ever to have anti virus software installed.

Once you’ve got the software up and running make sure that it’s updated on a regular basis and update it anytime you hear about a new virus or a new version of an old virus. If you’ve got an auto-update feature built into your program make sure you take advantage of it.

Conclusion

By following these security measures you should be able to enjoy, with the confidence that your private information will remain private, your favorite Wi-Fi hotspots around the world.

Choosing Table Centerpiece Flowers for your Dinner Party – Three Key Secrets

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Are you planning a dinner party? Do you need to choose the right flowers for your floral table centerpiece?

Choosing the right flowers can be frustrating and expensive – or it can be simple and economical. Knowing three key secrets makes it simple for you to choose the right flowers. Then you can create a simple but beautiful floral centerpiece.

The key is to have a plan and stick with it.

Have you tried to create a table centerpiece for your dinner party without a plan? Then you know how easy it is to get off track. Read on to see what happened to Sally because she didn’t have a plan:

Sally wanted a beautiful table centerpiece. A little behind schedule, she rushed to her local flower store to buy her flowers. The selection was wide, the flowers looked so lavish
and the colors just sang. She thought it would be a snap to choose her selection, hurry home and create a stunning, perfect little masterpiece for her dinner table.

But fifteen minutes later she was still wavering between the beautifully scented hyacinths, some striking pink lilies and the tall, expensive orchids. In the end she left the store with the tall expensive orchids.

Sally got home with flowers that cost her about four times what she had planned to spend. She got home late because it took her so long to decide. And she realized that the orchids she bought just weren’t right for her centerpiece, they were far too tall.

So she ended up with no flowers for her centerpiece and had to rush back to the store.

OK, I confess, I was that Sally – and more than once too. But now I’ve learned three key secrets for choosing flowers for my table centerpieces. Now I can add beauty to my dinner parties and subtract frustration and stress from my day.

Here are the three key secrets.

Less choice means less stress. Eliminate impractical choices. That means you shouldn’t choose tall flowers or flowers that are scented for your table centerpiece.

Your flower arrangement should not be more than about 5 inches high. Otherwise your guests have to peer through the floral bushes to see each other across the table.

So you can eliminate tall flowers unless you can cut them down. Now you won’t be swayed by a beautiful but impractical purchase. Sally’s tall orchids were stunning, but they didn’t cut it for a sit-down dinner table arrangement.

Scented flowers are appealing, but not at the dinner table. Don’t put highly scented flowers on the dinner table because their aroma can fight with the food aromas. Some guests may even be allergic to the strong scent as well. The scented hyacinths Sally was eyeing would not be good choices for the dinner table.

Now you can eliminate a large range of flowers before you even get to the store.

Remember, less choice means less stress.

White works with everything. White tablecloths work with every color of flower.

White taper candles work with every color of flower.

White or crystal candlesticks work with any color of flower.

And white flowers go with everything.

How easy could that be?

If you do want some color in your flowers, you already know that any color will go because of your white tablecloth and your white candles.

If you want color, select your color choices BEFORE you go shopping. Don’t come home with a color that is lovely but doesn’t work with your scheme. Making a color plan will really help you avoid stress at the flower shop.

Decide on one or two colors in your mind BEFORE you go to the flower store. If your first color choice isn’t available when you get there, go to your second choice.

If you see some flowers you absolutely have to have, but they aren’t one of your choices, don’t change your whole plan for the dining room table centerpiece. Just buy those must-have flowers to decorate your living room. Then go back to the plan and select one of your color choices for the dining room table.

So don’t be like Sally. Put the three key flower-choosing secrets to work for you:

  1. Remember that you shouldn’t choose tall or scented flowers for the dinner table
  2. Remember that white goes with everything
  3. And if you want color in your flowers, choose one or two colors before you go to the store, then stick with your choices, no matter how tempting the other colors are

Now you have maximized your chances of choosing the right flowers, and minimized your stress while you shop.

Did you know that with just three basic centerpiece arrangements, you can cover almost every dinner party you give over a year? See how on the Table Centerpiece page at the dinner party planning site.

Joanie Williams has been giving small dinner parties for years. To get better at it she decided to gather tips and information from experts into one central, reliable website resource, for people who wanted to give great dinner parties.

Who Wouldn’t Want a Free Quilting Pattern?

Monday, August 18th, 2008

The great thing about quilting is it mimics the patterns of life in a way. People make quilts based on things that they are passionate about. Some people take pictures of their kids and transfer them to quilt squares (fabric) then build blankets from this as a way of documenting their family history. Other people like to get free quilting patterns online and make quilts from things they love like patterns for nature, animals and so forth. Whatever your passion their is a great way to build a beautiful artistic piece that others will cherish. I’ve had a quilted blanket given to me once just for giving a woman a ride home!

If their is an art form that is both easy and fun yet highly creative it’s quilting. With very little training and some practice along with free quilting patterns you can find online, you can produce some amazing quilts in no time. It is a highly addictive art form however so if you get started realize you may spend alot of your free time building new quilts. I know people whom are so addicted to building these that they are always making quilts for their friends and families. They make them for gifts and to show off their skills and artwork. It’s fun and can be a rewarding experience too!

Holiday Hotels in Scotland with Live Scottish Music

Sunday, August 17th, 2008

If you are planning a holiday in Scotland then most likely at one point you will want to see and hear some real Scottish music. Around Scotland there are many hotels who put on live music, the hard bit is finding them sometimes. Often you can staying in areas of Scotland that have live music but not on the night you are there.

The local tourist offices do have some information on what is on, unfortunately by the time you get to Scotland unless you are booking your accommodation as you find it, then your chance of success is limited.

At the web site http://travelhotelsscotland.tripod.com you can find information on hotels around Scotland that have live music and the contact details also.

On the Travel Hotels Scotland web site you can easily plan your journey around Scotland so that you can enjoy an evening of Scottish entertainment.

In Scotland it is not normal to have to pay an entry fee for bar and hotel music so all you have to do is check the starting time and get their at least thirty minutes before staring time to be sure of a seat.

Most bars and hotels also do bar meals to three course spreads of Scottish, European and dishes from around the world. It is also often possible to book your meal time in advance at the venue, ensuring your seat at the same time for the nights entertainment.

Most acts are from solo to trio’s although occassionaly you may find bigger bands performing in local theatres and halls.

Performance time is usually around 9pm start and this is worth noting because in Scotland evening meals are eaten between 5pm and 8pm,
Many visitors to Scotland come from cultures that do not eat evening meals until around 9pm and unfortunately most bars do not serve food after 8 to 9pm.

Restaurants will still be open but not in hotels so you will have to eat away from the entertainment. Scottish restaurants do not normally have live entertainment.

One word of note if you are sitting in a bar listening to the free music, it is not looked upon favourably if you do not purchase something to drink. The music is free in the hope that sales at the bar will cover the cost of the band. It does not have to be alcohol that is purchased, soft drinks, tea and coffee all make the bar profit even mineral water.

The music on the night can be suitable for sitting listening to as you relax after your day of travel. Take note however if you see the word ceilidh on the poster advertising the music night because this usually means energetic and happy dancing to Scottish Dance music, a great fun filled evening.

Most music nights you will find will be on Thursday to Sunday although with careful planning you may find some midweek concerts. It is also possible for the visitor with a car to move around Scotland and get free music every night.

It is also expected for the audience to participate in the evening by singing along, clapping hands and stamping feet in time with the music. Also welcome is requests for the band to sing Scottish songs you like, the bands will want to play your request if they can because they know they have a happy customer.

One type of request not to ask for is songs from the pop world etc, to ask this from Scottish traditional performers will possibly result in you becoming an unintentional tool for the nights entertainment.

In the last fifteen or twenty minutes before closing you will often hear the cry from the bar staff Last orders, this is your last time to order a drink before closing. If a shout is not heard you may hear a bell tolling or some other weird noise that culminates in everyone making a last mad rush for the bar, that will be your signal.

When you are planning your music stops it can be useful to check out the price of staying in the hotel the music is on. There are good reasons for this the first one being if you have too much to drink, you only have to make your way to your room. On the other hand if you are still feeling lively sometimes you may find your self in the middle of what is called a -lock in- and that’s when the doors are locked after closing time, the curtains are closed and the night goes on in secret.

If you are in a bar in Scotland and get into the company of others and they offer to buy you a drink, if you accept it is custom to buy them one back next round. Be careful the locals are used to drinking the local beers and spirits faster than you will be, better not to get into rounds as you will most likely be feeling very bad the next morning.

Bearing all this in mind if you feel you are ready to start planning your Scottish Holiday go ahead and enjoy with the added benefit of knowing that in the morning you are going to wake up to see some of the most beautiful countryside in the world.
You can start your planning at my web site Travel Hotels Scotland and after that you will know how to organise the rest of your trip.
Happy holidays.

Humans are Unique to Animals; Are We Sure?

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

The topic recently came up in an online think tank as to if Human are truly unique to all other animals. Are they? That indeed is hard to say, but at least one researcher wanted to prove it and will thru experimentation find some answers to this question.

Yet in doing so, another think tanker has asked yet another question and provided us with some insight. As he stated: “So, why are we needing scientific data. Humans are animals and there is no real difference, which warrants a separate classification. The fact that we drive cars, fly planes and have jobs is somewhat of a new trend in human evolution and although we have leisure time to think, that it is not so uncommon amongst large top of their food chain mammals? Dolphins, Cats, Herd Animals, Dogs, etc do this as well and many higher order birds seem to and even reptiles seem to reason, strategize and such in building homes, hunting and self preservation.”

Interesting comments indeed and we know that currently humans are of the animal kingdom and classified as large higher-order mammals. And thus the think tanker went on to ask some more hard hitting questions:

“So, I do not see a need to re-categorize each or re-classify each. In fact the previous work in this field which tries to separate out humans as a separate classification is about as absurd as the Plantation Owners in the South trying to prove that their Negro Slaves were savages and non-humans or a separate category.”

How do you feel about the thought that humans are only animals and that there is really not one single behavioral characteristic which makes them unique from all other animals. Consider all this in 2006.
