My Profile of Nicholas Bredimus – Designer and Inventor Extraordinaire
Wednesday, March 31st, 2010Raised in New Jersey, Nicholas Bredimus mingled the worlds of software, hospitality, and airlines and forever changed all three areas of business. This creative man has worked in several areas, from the luxury home design market via the essentials of safety in the air to software to help with time management.
You could have foreseen, however, that given his heritage he was a sure bet to reach distinction. His clan traces its provenance all the way to the days of Rome’s glory and proudly boasts a broad mix of nationalities. The maternal line mingles German and Scottish ancestry. A similarly broad blend dominates the paternal line; prior to their emigration in the 1800s, the family lived in Luxembourg and England.
After they arrived in America, they still worked hard to climb in the world. One of seven children, Nicholas was blessed with a father who worked as a mechanical design engineer, and a mother who worked as a nurse. He would go on to live in Kansas City, Arizona, Texas and Virginia.
What did he do with his pedigree and schooling? He would swiftly embark on a string of respected posts, all as part of huge airlines. Republic Airlines, Trans World Airlines (TWA), Hughes Airwest – these businesses would all at different times appoint him as a vice president. Most important, however, was his achievement as a creative software architect working with the airline industry.
Nicholas is probably most famous for the aircraft maintenance computer program he invented for US Airways, which eventually became an “old reliable” for aircraft maintenance. He turned his gaze next to taking and recording reservations. For both hotels and air travel he designed software systems to offload most of the work necessary before that point. Afterwards he published QuikTix, an automatic, networked system for ticket ordering that stands as a first. Even though this was definitely his strong suit, he has often worked in other areas. Responsible positions with American Express and American Airlines were to come, and as you may know he started up a company of his own seventeen years ago.
Having stepped back from the roles which first gave him success, his abilities are nonetheless still in demand. His involvement now is with the architectural concerns bound up in the emergence of environmentally friendly, hi tech luxurious condos. The tireless energy we’ve described above won’t end.
