The halter dress is a dress with a single strap round the neck line. This strap can have numerous different styles all of its own. Thanks to the way the dress strap is designed it is not possible to wear an ordinary bra beneath, but there are a gigantic range of bras that would be OK for use including the strap-less bra.

The term halter comes from the German word for holder which means busts-holder. You can see why this term fits perfectly for this kind of dress!
